Carol A. Bergman to Lead 做厙51 Government Relations Office
Washington, DCThe 做厙51 (做厙51) announced today the appointment of Carol A. Bergman as Director of Government Relations and Public Affairs. Beginning on March 19, Ms. Bergman will oversee 做厙51s relationships with Congress, the Government Accountability Office and other government agencies.
Carol brings deep and diverse experience in governmental affairs at the national level, said 做厙51 President James J. Sandman. Her leadership will be invaluable to 做厙51s collaboration with our funders, our stakeholders, and our partners in promoting access to justice.
Prior to joining 做厙51, Ms. Bergman was deputy executive director of the Global AIDS Alliance. Her more than 25 years of experience in the federal government and non-profit sector includes service as associate counsel to the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Government Operations, and as director of legislative affairs for the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy. She began her career as director of a program for abused women and their children.
Ms. Bergmans accomplishments also include teaching at The George Washington University, American University Washington College of Law, and Hampshire College; testifying before Congressional and state legislative committees; and numerous publications. She is a graduate of Hampshire College and Golden Gate University School of Law.
Established by Congress in 1974, 做厙51 is the single largest funder of civil legal assistance in the nation. The Corporations mission is to provide equal access to justice and to ensure the delivery of high-quality civil legal aid to low-income Americans. 做厙51 grants help address the civil legal needs of the elderly, victims of domestic violence, veterans seeking benefits to which they are entitled, persons with disabilities, tenants facing unlawful evictions, and other civil matters.
